Retrace the footsteps of Hugh O’Neill’s journey through Ireland
on various weekends. Then continue the journey from Ireland through France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and
Italy departing 20th September 2010
99 of Ireland’s noble elite left Ireland in 1607 to find refuge in Europe. This episode in Irish history became known
as “Imeacht na nIarlai” - the ‘Flight of the Earls’. I am seeking 98 people to join me in following the journey of
Hugh O’Neill and his followers from Ireland through France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. The
programme will include walks in all six countries and will end with a visit to the Vatican where we will attend a
Papal Audience.
It is envisaged that as a group of 99 walkers we will follow in the path of O’Neill to raise over
€300,000 for Irish
Wheelchair Association.
