IWA recently launched its new strategy, 'Your Life – Your Way', setting out priority actions for the association in the period 2008-2011. The strategy was launched at IWA's Annual General Meeting in May 2008, when IWA Chairman, Gerry McMahon, presented the document to Oliver Murphy, a founding member of IWA, on behalf of the association's 20,000 members.
The development of the strategy commenced in October 2007 when a small team undertook a consultation with members, staff, volunteers, families, carers and interested groups/individuals in 80 locations throughout Ireland. In addition, a questionnaire was made available on the website of IWA and in Resource and Outreach Centres for individuals to submit their views on what should be covered by the new strategy. In excess of 3,000 comments, submissions and contacts were received during the consultation.
'Your Life – Your Way' contains 89 strategic actions, reflecting the messages heard in the consultation process. These strategic actions relate to enhancing services, supporting independent living, advocacy, working with others on behalf of members, raising the profile of IWA and supporting strategy implementation.
You can download the strategy here (PDF - 1MB). A copy of the strategy is available in local Resource and Outreach Centres and at IWA headquarters, Blackheath Drive, Clontarf, Dublin 3.
