IWA values and cares about your privacy and is committed to processing your personal information fairly and in compliance with data protection laws.

This is the privacy law set out by the European Union. This law protects everyone’s privacy rights including your rights as an IWA Member, Volunteer, AGM Attendee, or Staff Member.


What information does IWA collect from you?

To administer your relationship with us as an IWA Supporter, IWA may need to collect and process your personal data such as:

  • Name, address, email address, landline, mobile phone number, financial details e.g., credit/debit card details.
  • Donation, fundraising events, campaign, petition support history.
  • We may use unautomated profiling and screening techniques to analyse your personal information and create a profile about you, your interests and preferences from publicly available information

Why does IWA collect this information?

IWA collects this information from you to:

  • Create an account for you if you register with us as a supporter or if you wish to receive information about our activities.
  • Further our charitable aims, including for fundraising activities, where you agree to receive such information.
  • Provide you with information about other opportunities to support IWA where you do not object to receiving such information.
  • Administer the running of IWA’s Annual General Meeting.

Through our unautomated screening processes, the types of information we may collect about you from the public domain could include:

  • Your age, your qualifications, a wealth band (which will be an estimate of your wealth based on publicly available information), your trusteeships and the type of charity which you are a trustee of i.e., grant making, your company directorships, and your donation history.

This helps us to ensure communications are relevant and we make appropriate requests for donations and other forms of support.


Are IWA allowed to collect and process my information?

Yes, IWA have a legitimate interest in collecting and processing of your personal data for the administration of your IWA Membership and to comply with Company Law.

IWA rely on GDPR Article 6 1 (f) to process your standard information such as name, address, contact details:

  • Processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the controller or by a third party, except where such interests are overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject which require protection of personal data.

  • When you sign up to an IWA fundraising event
  • When you register as an IWA supporter
  • When you fill in a form via the IWA website

Whom does IWA share this information with?

IWA will use this data for the purposes of administering our relationship with you, as a valued IWA Member, IWA Sports Member, Volunteer, or Staff member, and to provide you with information about areas of interest to you and about our services generally. IWA will not, without your knowledge, supply your data to any third party except where such a transfer is a necessary part of the activities, which, we undertake as an organisation, for example, updating our funders, or to facilitate services provided on our behalf by our GDPR compliant third parties.


How long does IWA keep your information?

Typically, IWA will keep your data for seven years, while you are engaging with IWA, and for seven years after you stop engaging with IWA.


Information relating to our Service Users, Members and Customers

If you are an existing Service user, Member or a Customer who applies for one of our services or products details of how we process your information will be contained on the relevant application form and product terms and conditions.

However please note the following;

Your information comprises of all details we hold about you and your interactions and transactions with us we do not share any of this information with a third party outside of Irish Wheelchair Association without your prior authorisation. All payments by credit card over the internet are processed through a secure server.
