Have your say!
As Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) members are aware, the Department of Health has invited individuals who are currently in receipt of the Mobility Allowance and Motorised Transport Grant and those with an interest in the issue, to participate in a public consultation to find the most appropriate solution or solutions to address the priority transport needs of those who require supports.
The Department of Health recently announced that the National Disability Authority (NDA), as an independent statutory body, will facilitate 4 focus group sessions to converse directly with individuals who would like to share their views and ideas on possible alternative ways of providing transport supports.
The focus groups are open to people with disabilities who are currently in receipt of the Mobility Allowance or Motorised Transport Grant and those who are not currently receiving either of the schemes.
The Department of Health will participate in the focus group sessions to provide information about the schemes and to hear the views of those present. The first of four focus groups has already taken place in Athlone.
Three more focus groups will be facilitated on the following consecutive dates and locations:
• Tuesday, 30 April 2013: Irish Wheelchair Association, Abbeyville Centre, St Anne's, Sligo (12pm to 2pm)
• Wednesday, 1 May 2013: HSE South Offices, Blackpool, Cork (11.30am to 1.30pm) - opposite Blackpool Shopping Centre
• Friday, 3 May 2013: Pavilion, National Disability Authority, 25 Clyde Rd, Ballsbridge , Dublin 4 (11am to 1pm)
To submit an expression of interest for a focus group in one of the above locations please contact the Department of Health before, CLOSE OF BUSINESS ON WEDNESDAY, 24 APRIL 2013. Please submit your name, age and nature of your disability, indicating your preferred location.
By post: Please submit an expression of interest, the relevant information, stating your preferred location and post the information to

Please note a small number of places are available in each focus group. Expressions of interest have been sought for each location and participants will then be chosen by the Department of Health with assistance from the National Disability Authority.
The focus groups are a valuable opportunity for members to express their concerns and to have a direct input into the formation of alternative schemes. Irish Wheelchair Association encourages members who would like to attend a focus group to submit their expression of interest before the deadline of Wednesday, 24th April 2013.
Irish Wheelchair Association staff are aware of the public consultation and the upcoming focus groups taking place throughout the country, and are available to assist members with their expressions of interest.
If you are selected to attend a focus group, please contact your local Resource and Outreach Centre as soon as your place has been confirmed if you require transport or assistance on the day.
IWA will continue to update our members regularly on this issue and provide information as it becomes available.
