Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) would like to update all members, supporters and the general public in relation to the significant media coverage recently, regarding the issue of ‘top-ups’ to the salaries of CEO’s and Senior Executive’s within the voluntary and charitable sector.

The Association can confirm that IWA does not provide the CEO, Directors or other Managers with ‘top ups’ to their salaries. IWA can assure all involved with the Association, and the general public, that IWA is fully compliant with all Department of Health and Health Service Executive (HSE) guidelines in relation to salary scales and rates of pay.

IWA is a registered charity (Registered Charity No CHY 5393) and all financial and company information is published in our Annual Report and Annual Financial Accounts which are available on the IWA website (http://www.iwa.ie/about/company-information). The Association also sends its audited accounts to each of its members alongside an invitation to attend the Association’s AGM each year.

IWA insists on the highest standards of corporate governance in all our operations and was one of the first organisations to voluntarily adopt the Governance Code which is a code of practice for good governance of Community, Voluntary and Charitable organisations in Ireland.

The Association has also voluntarily adopted the Statement of Guiding Principles for fundraising in the context of the Charities Act. With regard to fundraising initiatives, all funds raised through public fundraising campaigns are immediately invested into the essential services which IWA provides to people with physical disabilities and other mobility impairments.

IWA is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee with charitable status and is wholly owned by its members, who are people with disabilities and others with impaired mobility, as well as family members, friends and volunteers. As a result, our services are responsive to their needs and the operations of the company are reported in a transparent way to all members.
