EIQA ABLE Tourism Award

Today, Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) was awarded the EIQA Able Tourism Award, the Q Mark for Accessibility recognising the Association's commitment and dedication to providing appropriate, accessible and high quality services to customers who have a disability. IWA provides a range of supported holidays and breaks to people with physical and sensory disabilities at several locations nationwide.

Q Mark for accessibility

The ABLE Tourism Award is acknowledged as being the Q Mark for accessibility. IWA's National Holiday Centres; Cuisle which is located in the grounds of Donamon Castle, outside Roscommon town, the Carmel Fallon Holiday Centre which is situated in Clontarf, Dublin and Claddagh Court Holiday Centre in Kilkenny, were presented with the awards by Irene Collins, Managing Director of EIQA, the Irish National Quality Association.

Speaking at the presentation, Kathleen McLoughlin, CEO of IWA explained the importance of accessibility for guests and tourists with disabilities:

"IWA is one of a number of not-for-profit organisations that work to build a more inclusive society. We have been successful at this because we keep the person at the centre of the process in all that we do.

Our holiday centres provide guests with any necessary assistance and support they require to ensure their holiday experience is as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. IWA Holiday Centres are fully equipped all the aids and appliances necessary to meet the needs and requirements of all guests who choose to spend their holidays there.

Receiving the ABLE Tourism Award is an acknowledgement of our continued commitment to provide the highest quality and standard of services to people with disabilities and others with mobility issues."

The ABLE Tourism Award is assessed and evaluated under three headings:

The ABLE Employee - The ABLE Employee allows organisations the opportunity to show that they can provide a sense of well-being, good communication and accessibility to all of their staff. The organisation must also be able to demonstrate that they have made provision for any member of staff who has or who may at some time in the future acquire a disability.

The ABLE Customer - The ABLE Customer allows organisations to demonstrate a quality customer experience, which builds and develops on-going relationships with customers. By incorporating an inclusive communications approach organisations must prove that they are dedicated to developing a long-term, accessible service.

The Built Environment - The Built Environment allows organisations to demonstrate that they have made provision for universal access and circulation throughout their premises so that all users, both customers and staff, may move around in safety and with ease.

Irene Collins, Managing Director of EIQA, presented IWA with their respective awards today and commented:

"The team at Irish Wheelchair Association have shown that they have a strong commitment to operating at the highest standards of accessibility and provide inclusive customer service to people with all types of disabilities not just those in wheelchairs. Achieving the Q Mark for Accessibility is a testament to the hard work and commitment that IWA have shown. This is great news for all of their employees, members and guests. We are absolutely delighted to acknowledge their hard work and we congratulate them on their achievement."
