Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) Opens New Community Facility in Letterkenny
Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) officially opened its new Resource and Outreach Centre in Letterkenny on Friday, 28th October 2016. The opening was celebrated by local people with disabilities, staff members, volunteers and community supporters during an event which took place at the new Resource and Outreach Centre located in The Glenview Building, Upper Carnamugagh Road, Letterkenny.
IWA’s new Resource and Outreach Centre will continue to deliver essential services to people with physical disabilities and others with limited mobility, including educational and training programmes, social and recreational opportunities, and a dedicated information and advice service. Comprising a large multi-functional room, community meeting rooms, therapy rooms, kitchen and dining areas, the new Resource and Outreach Centre will benefit almost fifty existing IWA members from Letterkenny while also catering for the growth of essential services in the area.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony, CEO of Irish Wheelchair Association, Rosemary Keogh explained:
Our new Resource and Outreach Centre, in The Glenview Building will work in conjunction with existing IWA services in Malin, Dobhar, Carrigart and Donegal Town, the range of community support services based in The Glenview Building will ensure that people with disabilities living in Letterkenny will receive high quality services which directly impact, enhance and improve the quality of their lives and that of their family members.
This new and modern Resource and Outreach Centre will open up a world of opportunity for members in Letterkenny and is the culmination of a number of years of hard work, determination and resilience. The transition of services to The Glenview Building began in November 2015, bringing together local people, statutory and voluntary agencies, neighbouring businesses and organisations. I am delighted to see the Resource and Outreach Centre in full operation for the benefit of Letterkenny and the wider community.
Already a hive of activity, the Resource and Outreach Centre has local staff working alongside members and volunteers on a daily basis, five accessible buses on the road seven days a week and over 50 members participating in programmes and initiatives during the day, evenings and weekends which enable them to lead independent, active and fulfilling lives. The Association welcomes all local people, groups, schools and organisations to visit the centre and utilise the amenities available there.
