IWA's Sunshine Club - Better Together Entry
In 2005, Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) in South Westmeath identified a growing need for initiatives and activities dedicated primarily to children and young people with disabilities, for which services are greatly lacking in the area. This need compounded by frustrated parents approaching the Association requesting a unique service led to the fruition of the Sunshine Club.
The Sunshine Club operates monthly and aims to empower children with disabilities to be independent and gain social confidence.
As part of ‘Better Together’, a nationwide campaign which aims to build support for hundreds of charities, community groups, clubs and associations across the country by encouraging the public to support these good causes and make a difference in their communities, the Sunshine Club have produced a video which shares the experiences of all involved in the club. Kids, brothers, sisters, Mums and Dads all took part in the production which was very kindly filmed by Daniel Buckley, Student of NUIM.
Many other organisations have also produced videos and it is down to the public to vote for their favourite. Please support the Sunshine Club by voting for their video. The public can vote for videos, right up to 5pm on 20 November 2015.
You can vote once a day, every day for all your favourite videos. The ten videos with the most votes in each category will be shortlisted and a panel of independent judges will select one winner in each of the three categories.
The winners in each of the non-profit categories will receive a prize of €2,000.
