Launch of Angel Campaign 2014

Tuesday, 04 November 2014

Boyzone and Coronation Street star Keith Duffy celebrated the launch of Irish Wheelchair Association’s national ‘Angels’ fundraising campaign today, along with Ireland’s very own superheroes and former conjoined twins, Hassan and Hussein Benhaffaf, who receive services from the Association on a weekly basis.

The boys have been attending pre-school for almost two years now and receive assistance in the classroom from Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) Personal Assistants. The extra support was vital in enabling Hassan and Hussein to attend their local pre-school, a significant milestone for the twins who were each born without one leg, as well as being joined at the chest and abdomen.

According to their mother Angie Benhaffaf, Hassan and Hussein, “have truly blossomed” thanks to the essential services and supports provided by the Association in their home town of Carrigtwohill, Co Cork.

Launching the campaign with Keith Duffy, who is a long-time supporter of IWA and the national ambassador for Angels, the boys were joined by volunteers who will be selling Angel products for just €2 each on Friday, 7th November 2014.

Speaking at the launch, CEO of Irish Wheelchair Association Kathleen McLoughlin said:

IWA is committed to improving the lives of people with disabilities throughout Ireland, enabling people of all ages to live, laugh, learn and love in their community alongside family and friends.

Angels is the Association’s only national fundraising campaign and this year funds raised through the sale of Angel products will be used to support the essential services which the Association provides to people in their homes, schools, workplaces and communities on a daily basis. In particular the funds raised will be invested in IWA’s fleet of accessible buses which play a vital role in delivering local community services.

The Angel campaign will begin on Thursday 6th November and Friday 7th November, with volunteers selling Angel Products for just €2 each in towns and communities nationwide. The Association is also appealing for text and online donations by texting DONATE to 57802 or visiting www.iwa.ie/angels. To keep up to date with Angel events and announcements, you can also follow the campaign on Facebook.
