My name is Chloe Lawlor, I am a first year occupational therapy student. As part of our course we do service learning once a week in an area of our choice. I chose to do mine with the Youth Service of the IWA. The aim of the service learning was to build a collaborative relationship with those that we were volunteering with. Throughout the few months that I spent with the youth group I learned so much. I met so many new people who really changed my perspective on life. The club members were all around the same age as me or a bit younger and therefore we formed such close bonds. I enjoyed myself so much over those few months, making a fool of myself by competing against the other student in games, sports and even karaoke. The Thursday nights were dedicated to fun and so I made the most of it by dancing around and talking to everyone. I was given the opportunity to get involved in everything that was going on in the club, I even received one of their calendars that they made for the New Year. I met some really amazing people with such interesting stories, interests and lives. Everyone in the club was so welcoming and they all made it much easier for me to settle in. I am so glad that I chose to do my service learning there. When it was time for us to finish up at the end of our first year in college I almost didn’t want to leave. I have seen what amazing work the Youth Service in the IWA does and I was proud to be a part of it for the year.
