In preparation for Irish Wheelchair Association’s (IWA) national fundraising Angel campaign which takes place each November, the Association was joined by DPD Ireland to launch the campaign in Westmeath this weekend. Junior members of the Association’s Sunshine Club from Athlone were joined by the staff of DPD Ireland, the national courier service as they marked the first delivery of Angel products which left their depot on Saturday afternoon.
The Angel campaign will begin on Thursday 6th November and Friday 7th November with volunteers collecting in towns and communities nationwide, in particular outside all ALDI stores. Angels is the Associations only national fundraiser and is a highly anticipated and important campaign on the IWA calendar. Speaking at the launch, Charlene Hurley IWA Angel Campaign Coordinator said:
The support of local volunteers, as always is a vital component to the success of Angels and each November we appeal to the general public, our members and supporters to volunteer with us and assist with the campaign locally in Westmeath. This may mean volunteering to sell Angels products on the street or through local schools and shops, or organising a special event like a coffee morning or a fun run.
We are very grateful to DPD Ireland who generously assist the Association each year by delivering Angel pins, pencils and fun packs across Ireland. This year all funds raised through the sale of Angels products will be immediately invested into all of the Associations services, in particular IWA’s fleet of accessible buses. Without IWA buses so many members, like those involved in the Sunshine Club, just simply wouldn’t be able to access essential services.
Speaking about their involvement with the Angels Campaign, Maeve Dwyer, Service Delivery & Marketing Manager with DPD Ireland said:
We’re delighted to continue our long association with IWA. The work that the Association does in the community is amazing and the DPD team is pleased to be able to provide support though the distribution of the Angels products across the country.
This year IWA hopes that community volunteers will join members and staff to support the Association to raise the necessary funds to maintain services.
