Your Support in Action

Your kind donations support us to offer training and other vital support to Irish Wheelchair Association members like Nicola and Alan, who are engaged in lobbying and campaigning on behalf of people living with disabilities.

One of the issues Nicola lobbies her local council about is rural transport – an important issue for people with disabilities all over Ireland. She’s using her advocacy skills and her lived experience to demand changes and improvements that will make it possible for more people with disabilities to retain their independence.

Alan took part in a national advocacy campaign called Getting Nowhere, which focuses on public transport accessibility. That campaign led to a review of all guidelines involving transport infrastructure being included in the new National Human Rights Strategy for Disabled People.

Our team, along with Nicola, Alan and so many others around the country, are having conversations at local and national level. Together, we are effective.

Your Support Empowers Real Lives

You are supporting people like Jane who lives independently in Co. Meath.

Being able to live independently is hugely important to Jane but she worries about the cost of living - and specifically the cost of electricity.

Jane is determined to use her voice and actions to bring attention to the many ways in which people with disabilities are disadvantaged financially. And your support helps her - and so many others - do that with confidence.

“I've seen what we can achieve when we work together. You can play your part too, and join us, by making a donation today. Thank you for anything you can give.”

Rising Costs. Falling Supports

A huge issue for people with disabilities is the additional cost. As we move into winter, so many of our members find themselves in a position where they have to choose between heating their home and eating.

This has been worsened by cuts in Budget 26. The government must understand that there is a real and immediate need to address the increasing cost of disability.

Your donation this Christmas could support our vital advocacy work, ensuring we hold the Government to account and making it possible for us to continue to lobby and campaign on behalf of people with disabilities all over Ireland.

Here's how the recent Budget has hit people with disabilities

Following Budget26, people with disabilities are worse off by over €1,400 a year.
Disability Payment−€400
Living Alone Allowance−€200
Fuel Allowance−€300
Electricity Credits−€250
Double October Payment in 2025−€254
TOTAL LOSS PER YEAR −€1,404
