Local Disability Organisation Hosts Annual Fun Day

Over 150 people with physical disabilities will come together for the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) annual Fun Day which takes place on Friday 29th June. An activity packed day is planned with Sports Olympic themed events, angel card readings, summer bbq, wheelchair basketball, beauty parlour, dancing and spot prizes to keep everyone entertained.

The 2012 Fun Day will bring together IWA Centres from Ardee, Drogheda, Cavan and Navan. People from each centre will wear their County GAA colours and many people will wear Olympic themed Fancy Dress.

IWA currently has over fifty Resource & Outreach Centres nationwide, from which the Association provides a wide range of services, activities and initiatives. For many communities, the IWA Centres play a central role in community life and provides essential services to local people with disabilities. Last year the Association provided over 800,000 hours of services to IWA members and service users from IWA Resource and Outreach Centres.

Speaking about the Fun Day event, organiser and North East area manager, Anne Lowry said; “The Annual Fun Day is an opportunity for our members from the Dublin North East Region to relax and catch up with old friends. The aim of the IWA Centres is to provide opportunities and support services to people with physical disabilities so that they can lead full, active and independent lives in their communities. The services available can be for social, educational and training purposes. The Fun Day is a highly anticipated event on the IWA Dublin North East Centres calendar, and we are delighted to be in a position to host this wonderful day again.

IWA Resource and Outreach centres play an important role in community life, being used in the evenings and at weekends by local clubs and voluntary organisations. The centres are always looking for local volunteers who are available to support the services the busy centres provide on a daily basis.
