Westside Youth Join in the Fun
On Saturday 7 June, St. Kevin’s Family Resource Centre in Tallaght celebrates its 20th anniversary by hosting a Family Fun Day.
IWA’s Westside Young Adult Group, based in St. Kevin’s for the last 10 years, was keen to join the celebrations. The group is volunteering to run a range of carnival games and activities for the benefit of families attending the fun day.
IWA Youth Service has a fantastic partnership with St. Kevin’s using the centre for a host of youth clubs and activities including exhibiting a giant mural, and producing a comedy drama for Tallaght Theatre.
We’ve also rehearsed for an integrated dance performance in Civic Theatre, and shot a series of short films and animations screened at Fresh Film festival, where the group picked up an award.
We’ll be there on Saturday to challenge families to test their skills at our various stalls and games, with support from young people from Foroige Youth Café also based in St. Kevin’s. So far testing for the wet sponge throw has proved very popular, especially when Stephen the youth worker volunteered to be the target!!
It all kicks off with music from Tallaght Youth Band, and the afternoon is packed with other events such as martial arts demonstrations, and dance performances by local youth groups. As well as a BBQ, and raffle there will be an unveiling of a commemorative plaque.
