IWA offers QQI-accredited life skills training to people with disability through training programmes based in Clontarf, Kilkenny and Wexford.
IWA’s Rehabilitative Training programme is a two-year QQI accredited life skills programme for people with physical disability with a strong focus on developing life skills and working towards personal goals.
The programme aims to support learners to acquire new skills, gain confidence, and become more independent in daily life. It is a stepping stone towards each individual’s future goals and choices, such as progressing to further education, gaining work experience, or becoming more active in their communities.
Learners can choose to take part in a range of group workshops and activities including Communications, Computer Skills, Everyday Maths and Money Management, Cookery, Career Preparation, Personal Development, and Work Experience.
In addition to workshops, each learner receives one-to-one support through IWA’s Enhanced Person Centred Process. Each individual is facilitated to identify their personal goals and to make decisions about how to best achieve them.
IWA has both full time and part time RT places available. New learners begin with a two-week induction phase where they can sample various aspects of the programme and meet with a member of staff to develop an Individual Learning Plan.
Students are also supported in finding work experience and placements based on their interests and skills.
Who is Eligible?
Applicants must be between 18-65 years and have a physical or sensory disability. They should also be registered with the HSE in their local region.
A functional level of literacy and numeracy, or ability to develop these skills, is essential. Potential learners must also demonstrate a clear desire to learn new skills and to work towards personal goals.
