Spokeout
July 2026

Hello readers, We hope you enjoy this July edition of Spoke Out as much as we are all enjoying the good weather!

Ever dreamed of visiting Disneyland Paris? IWA’s John Fulham certainly did, and in this issue, he shares his family’s holiday experience from the perspective of a wheelchair user. If you’re planning a trip, you’ll find plenty of practical tips and useful information.

This month’s Spotlight celebrates our Personal Assistants (PAs) and the invaluable role they play in the lives of our members. Through the story of Alexander and his PA, Edel—who he says has become like family—we highlight the importance of these relationships.

Our Advocacy team continues to work tirelessly behind the scenes, campaigning on a wide range of issues, including the cost of disability. Inside, you can learn more about our Pre-Budget Submission for 2027, which has recently been submitted to Government.

We are always grateful to those who take on fundraising challenges in support of IWA. If you’re looking for your next challenge, there are still places available for the Dublin City Marathon—find out more inside.

From the opening of our new centre in Loughrea to podcasting in Lucan and the launch of our Skillsfest Art and Photography Competition, this edition is packed with lots of interesting articles.

Happy reading!

Marie
