May 2026
It has been an exciting start to the month for IWA following an exhilarating Fitness Inclusion Games at the Sport Ireland Campus on Thursday, May 7. A huge congratulations to the almost 170 athletes who took part on the day, and sincere thanks to the IWA staff and gym coaches whose hard work and dedication helped make the event such a success.
We are already looking forward to next year!
With the summer concert season now upon us, IWA’s Edel Carey, in this month’s Mobility Life feature, shares her experience of attending concerts as a wheelchair user, offering practical tips, honest reflections, and valuable insights.
Elsewhere in this edition, we bring positive news from our centre in Cavan, while two members from Donegal share their stories of adapting to a new way of living following life-changing events, and the support they received from IWA along the way.
Have you heard about the ‘Jack It Up’ ramp? This innovative portable ramp has been designed by transition students in Co. Wexford to improve accessibility for wheelchair users—read all about it inside.
And for sports enthusiasts, we are delighted to share details of the official launch of Boccia as the newest sport under IWA-Sport’s governance, marking an important milestone for disability sport in Ireland.
We also feature one member’s journey to employment, alongside plenty more stories, updates and community news from across IWA.
We look forward to seeing some of you at our AGM on Thursday both online and in person.
In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the read.
