Spokeout
November 2025

Hello readers, the big news since our last edition has been the election of Catherine Connolly as President of Ireland.

In this issue, we are delighted to feature the President-elect’s visit to IWA Clontarf during her election campaign.

As winter sets in, utility costs for heating and electricity are placing an additional burden on many of our members.  Following a disastrous Budget that left many people with disabilities over €1,400 worse off, IWA is urgently calling for the implementation of an emergency winter payment. We urge you to support this vital campaign – no one should have to choose between heating and eating.  You can find full details on how to do this inside.

A highlight of this month will be the 12th annual NRH Sports Champs, opening on November 24th. To mark the four-day event, we’re shining a spotlight on the work of Mark Barry at the National Rehabilitation Hospital on behalf of IWA.  You will be moved by some of the incredible stories shared– our thanks to everyone who contributed.

We also meet the parents and children involved in one of IWA’s Multi-Sports Clubs, the Junior South East Swifts and discover why it’s so much more than just a club!

Finally, as IWA celebrates its 65th birthday, we take this opportunity to recognise the vital role of our Personal Assistants (PAs) – the backbone of our organisation.

There’s plenty more to enjoy in this edition.

Happy reading!

Marie
