We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Anne Ebbs from Donore in Co Meath, former IWA Director of Sport and Secretary General of the Paralympic Council of Ireland.

Anne joined the IWA in its formative years and worked in a number of roles before becoming the first sports administrator in 1986, and subsequently the Director of Sport. Anne also served as the first Secretary General of the Paralympic Council of Ireland from 1987 until 2008. Upon her retirement in 2008, Anne was honoured with the Paralympic Order from the International Paralympic Committee and the Irish Paralympic Order in 2012. Anne was also a torchbearer for the 2012 Summer Olympics held in London.

Anne was also an accomplished athlete and competed in multiple Paralympic Games for Ireland winning the silver medal for table tennis in 1972 and 1984 and bronze in 1980.

Anne has left an incredible legacy behind her and one that the IWA is very thankful for and appreciative of, that has seen Para Sport played by many, and at all levels the length and breadth of the country.

We offer sincere condolences to Anne’s family and friends.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis. (May she rest in peace)
