IWA-Sport is pleased to host a Wheelchair Racing Coaching Workshop on Saturday, November 4th in SETU Carlow.

Introduction

This workshop will be delivered by Heather Ardis from Athletics NI, Para Development Officer with support from athlete, Andrew Greer, providing an introductory understanding of classification, getting started, seating positions, session planning and basic coaching.

Who can attend?

Coaches aiming to work with juniors and beginner adults.

Athletes looking to get involved in Wheelchair Racing. (Afternoon coaching session only and must be a minimum age of 8 years old).

Format / event details

The workshop will comprise of two parts;

Morning Session 10am-1pm

Coaches only workshop (coaches only to attend)

This will include:

  • Race chair maintenance
  • Seating positioning
  • Pushing technique
  • Wheelchair warm-up
  • Beginner sessions

Afternoon session 2pm – 4pm

Practical Coaching session for athletes (beginner athletes invited to attend, where they will receive coaching instruction from the Coaches in attendance).
