On November 16th, the Para Powerlifting season came to a close with the Para Powerlifting National Championships at IWA, Clontarf.

Broadcast live on IWA-Sport’s Facebook page with commentary from Will Downing, there were impressive performances within all categories. Best Overall Lifter for the men went to Mohamad Camara from the Up to 54kg Category. In his debut season in Para Powerlifting, he lifted a massive 125kg for his best lift of the competition.

Best Rookie was awarded to Jack O’Connor, who’s best lift was 65kg in the Up to 65kg Category. While Sean Gaffney was awarded Best Legend and Best in Total, with three good lifts and a best lift of 130kg in the Over 107kg Category.

Other winners include Michael O’Cearra in the Up to 80kg Category with a lift of 100kg, Sean Hughes in the Up to 97kg Category whose best lift came in at 150kg. Then finally Jason Muldoon lifting 90kg in the Up to 107kg Category.

In the Women’s competition, Best Overall went to the fast-rising Casey Fitzgerald, also winner of the Best Next Gen award and Up to 73kg Category, her best lift of the day being 85kg.

In the Up to 67kg Category, Evelyn Thomas who travelled from Wales to compete sealed 1st place, the Best Rookie award and Best in Total award, where she confirmed top spot by lifting 70kg.

Ciara O’Brien lifts her way to 1st place during her debut Para Powerlifting National Championships.

It was a day to remember for two newcomers to the sport as well, where Gillian Craig took top spot in the Up to 79kg Category, lifting 47kg. While Ciara O’Brien lifted 45kg to come out on top in the Over 86kg Category on her competitive Para Powerlifting debut.
