Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Ann Marie O’Grady as the association’s new Chief Executive Officer. Ms O’Grady’s arrival comes after an extensive recruitment process aimed at finding a leader to drive IWA forward.

With an impressive background, Ann Marie brings a wealth of experience and business acumen gained through her tenure in various senior roles within St James’s Hospital, Beaumont Hospital, and most recently as Chief Executive Officer of Leopardstown Park Hospital. Her expertise and dedication make her the perfect fit for Irish Wheelchair Association’s mission.

Regarding her new role, Ann Marie expressed her excitement and commitment to the organisation’s vision. “As a keen sportswoman myself, I was honoured to meet with IWA founding member and Paralympian, Dr. Oliver Murphy as one of my first engagements. Hearing about the organisation’s vision firsthand was an absolute privilege, and I am fully dedicated to leading Irish Wheelchair Association into the future. The IWA values of openness, courage, integrity, visionary, excellence, equality and fun are close to my heart and I have already seen them actively in action in my first few days. I have full confidence in the incredible employees and volunteers, and, together, we will achieve great things with and for people with disabilities long into the future.”

Irish Wheelchair Association Begins New Year with Excitement as Ann Marie O’Grady Takes the Helm as CEO.

Ann Marie joins Irish Wheelchair Association at a critical time when the organisation is focused on delivering its 2025 Strategic Plan. This plan aims to fully implement the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which Ireland ratified in 2018 but has yet to fully adopt. The organisation firmly believes that fulfilling this commitment is not only essential for changing the lives of the people they support today but also for future generations.

Martin Kelly, Chairperson to the Board stated “The Board are confident that Ann Marie will make a very positive contribution to the achievement of the vision, mission and values of Irish Wheelchair Association working with the dedicated management and staff to ensure that our objectives are achieved in the coming years. We are also confident that Ann Marie will work to establish good working relationships with both our funders and the other organisations working in the physical and sensory disability sector.”
