The 2023 IWA-Sport AGM took place using a hybrid format for the first time, meaning Members could both attend online and in person at the Sport Ireland Campus.

Led by National Sports Executive Committee Chairperson, James McCarthy and IWA-Sport Director of Sport, Nicky Hamill, proceedings began with a period of reflection for members that are no longer with us.

The Chairperson James McCarthy opened with a heart-warming address where he acknowledged that the full impact of Covid 19 might not yet be understood until future years, however it was fantastic to see the bounce back to normal activity.

IWA CEO, Rosemary Keogh also spoke where she thanked and congratulated the Sports Membership on a very busy and eventful 2022. Both McCarthy and Hamill acknowledged Rosemary’s impending retirement and both thanked Rosemary for her ongoing support during her tenure.

Caitriona Griffin, Chief Financial Officer for IWA took the floor through the 2022 finances of the sport sector, while answering follow-up questions. Additionally Nicky Hamill provided an overview of the year and the many sporting achievements.

Elections were held for the positions of Secretary, Treasurer and 2 Committee Members and the Membership returned the outgoing candidates of Adrian Donoghue (Secretary), Iqura Naseem (Treasurer) Ciara Staunton and Deirdre Mongan as Committee Members for 2 year terms.

Following the elections an open forum was held where queries were raised across a range of matters.

The Chairperson closed the meeting at approximately 9:30pm and thanked all for attending.
