Building Bridges sees IWA-Sport partner with Barcel’Hona Sport Events from Spain, KOM 018 Club for Youth Empowerment and Association of Wheelchair Basketball Clubs both from Serbia, the Portuguese Basketball Federation and Hope Sport from North Macedonia.
Together they meet to discuss how sport promotes healthy habits and plays a crucial part in fostering social integration and inclusion for everyone.
The Building Bridges objectives are broken down to three elements:
- To increase the competences and knowledge of the coaches who work with Wheelchair Basketball players
- To create opportunities for athletes in their wheelchairs
- To raise awareness and give visibility to Wheelchair Basketball and increase sporting activity amongst people with disabilities.
Recently IWA-Sport travelled to Barcelona, Spain to meet with their project partners where they all took part in training for coaches and professionals who work with Wheelchair Basketball players. During that time, it allowed partners to share their knowledge, take part in practical learning and discuss in-depth how to improve inclusion, accessibility and coaching practices in Wheelchair Basketball.
Building Bridges is an EU, Erasmus+ Sport funded project that aims to raise awareness and make Wheelchair Basketball more inclusive.
By the end of the productive trip the partners were encouraged to implement their new-found methods within their local communities and continue to support the growth of adaptive sports.
Building Bridges is co-funded by the European Union through Erasmus+ Sport between November 2024 and October 2025.
