Irish Wheelchair Association’s All-Ireland TY Wheelchair Basketball Championships immerses TY students in a fast paced, edge of your seat, Paralympic Sport and provides an authentic first hand inclusive experience of this incredible game.
Nine regional finals will take place throughout the country between January and March 2020. The All-Ireland TY Wheelchair Basketball Championships Final will be played on Thursday, 2nd April, 2020. Read our FAQs here.

Expression of interest
- Each participating school is asked to fundraise €1000 for Irish Wheelchair Association charitable purposes.
- A deposit of €100 is required upon registration which is non-refundable. This will be taken off your overall fundraising total of €1000.
- All funds raised must be lodged to Irish Wheelchair Association no later than 2 weeks prior to the competition taking place.
- Teams will be made up of both boys and girls. Any non-coeducational school will be paired with another opposite sex school on the day.
- The top team from each regional final will proceed to the finals which will be held in NITC, Abbottstown in April.

Who can enter?
This competition is open to the TY students of all secondary schools.
Ideally schools will be co-educational.
It is required that teams will be made up of both boys and girls. Any non-coeducational school will be paired with another opposite sex school on the day.
What is the competition format?
Schools that enter will play regional finals in their respective regions or as close to their region as can be facilitated.
When and where will competitions be played?
Nine regional finals will be played throughout the country between January and March 2020.

The TY Wheelchair Basketball All Ireland Championships Final will be played on Thursday, 2nd April 2020 at the National Indoor Training Centre (NITC), Sport Ireland Campus, Snugborough Road, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15.
How many players can I have on a team?
Each team can have a maximum of 20 players made up of 10 girls & 10 boys.
Five players on court at any time with a ratio of three and two (either three girls and two boys or vice versa).
Please note same-sex schools will be mixed with other schools to ensure girls and boys are on each team.
What do we need to bring?
An enthusiastic team and a set of your school jerseys.
The Irish Wheelchair Association will provide all other equipment and resources.
What do the winners receive?
Regional and final winners will receive a TY Wheelchair Basketball All Ireland Championships 2020 Trophy.
Can I bring supporters?
Supporters are welcome.
Please let us know in advance how many students you are planning to bring as there may be a restriction depending on the capacity of the regional venues.

When do I have to decide by?
All expression of interests must be received no later than Friday October 18, 2019.
Once we reach capacity for the TY Wheelchair Basketball All Ireland Championships we will not be able to take any more registrations.
How do I register my school?
In order to secure your schools place in the TY Wheelchair Basketball All Ireland Championship a €100 registration fee is required. You can fill in your registration from here.
What is the fundraising target?
Fundraising target for each school is €1,000.

When and how do I lodge funds?
All funds raised must be lodged with the Irish Wheelchair Association no later than 2 weeks prior to taking part in regional competitions.
All relevant bank account details and lodgement processes will be provided to schools once they register for the competition.
