Irish Wheelchair Association Sport’s TY Wheelchair Basketball Regional Championship immerses TY students in a fast paced, edge of your seat, Paralympic Sport and provides an authentic first hand inclusive experience of this incredible game. 

Regional finals will take place in Neptune Stadium, Cork (March 9th), Gormanston, Meath (March 2nd), Galway (March 16th) & Limerick TBC.

School Registration

  • Each participating school is asked to contribute €1000 for 1 team, €1750 for a second team and €2,250 for a third team. These funds will go towards IWA Sport participation and coaching programmes. 
  • All funds raised must be lodged to Irish Wheelchair Association no later than 2 weeks prior to the competition taking place. 
  • Teams to be made up of boys and girls. Any non-coeducational school can pair with another opposite sex school on the day. 
  • The top team from each regional final will be presented with a trophy.

Who can enter?

This competition is open to the TY students of all secondary schools.
Ideally schools will be co-educational but teams can amalgamate for the purposes of having a mixed team.


What is the competition format?

Schools can pick whether they play in the Munster, Leinster or Connacht and play regional finals in their respective regions or as close to their region as can be facilitated.


When and where will competitions be played?

Regional finals will take place in Neptune Stadium, Cork (March 9th), Gormanston, Meath (March 2nd), Galway (March 16th) & Limerick TBC.

How many players can I have on a team?

Each team can have a maximum of 20 players. Five players on court at any time with a ratio of three and two (either three girls and two boys or vice versa). 


What do we need to bring?

An enthusiastic team and a set of your school jerseys. Irish Wheelchair Association will provide all other equipment and resources. 


What do the winners receive?

Regional winners will receive a TY Wheelchair Basketball Regional Championship Trophy. 


Can I bring supporters?

Supporters are welcome. Please let us know in advance how many students you are planning to bring as there may be a restriction depending on the capacity of the venue. You can let us know this number through the registration form.

When do I have to decide by?

All entries must be received no later than two weeks before the event you are entering.
Once we reach capacity for the TY Wheelchair Basketball Regional Championship we will not be able to take any more registrations. These are being held on a first come first served basis as places are limited.
