As the Irish Wheelchair Rugby Squad get ready for the European Championships in May, young IWA members are invited to take part in the first Wheelchair Rugby Junior Blitz on Saturday 9th May.

After a great day of trying Wheelchair Rugby during the final Wheelchair Basketball Junior Blitz of the 2025/26 season, junior members are encouraged to join Rebel Wheelers, IWA-Sport and Cork Sports Partnership at Mayfield Sport Complex in Cork to take part in the exciting and fun sport.

Rebel Wheelers Multi-Sport Club has been running Junior Wheelchair Rugby since 2024, sparking interest around the country on how more can get involved. The Rebels are excited to host the first Wheelchair Rugby Junior Blitz, with the club coach, Jack Squibb telling of the players’ excitement.

“Every week the children have been asking when they can compete and play with other children around the country. So when we got to tell them that the Junior Blitz was finally happening, they were all beaming with excitement!”

Running from 11am to 4pm, the Junior Blitz will provide children with a chance to try one of the most exciting Paralympic sports in a fun and friendly environment.

With Rebel Wheelers and IWA-Sport providing all equipment and support on the day, teams will be selected on the day. Children can expect to learn the basic rules of playing Wheelchair Rugby, all while having fun throughout the day.

Registration is now open and can be found by clicking here.
