After a successful six weeks of trialling a multi-sport programme in Limerick earlier this year, IWA-Sport are delighted to announce that Treaty Rollers Multi-Sport Club is set to launch this September.
Partnering with Limerick Sports Partnership, IWA-Sport ran a 6-week multi-sport programme where children with physical disabilities got to try a variety of para sports.
The programme was deemed a great success and has resulted in the permanent set up of a multi-sport club in Limerick under the name of Treaty Rollers Multi-Sport Club.
A weekly session will take place at Limerick ETSS in Castletroy on Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Children with a physical disability aged 5-17 will be welcome to join and try para sport in a fun and safe environment.
The club launches on Tuesday 24th September and will involve a variety of activities, which will help children develop skills that will improve their fitness and day-to-day quality of life.
Speaking on the importance of multi-sport clubs, IWA-Sport Development Officer Kelly McGrory said:
“A multi-sport club for children with physical disabilities will offer immense benefits to the local community. Beyond the obvious physical advantages of exercise and skill development, the club will foster inclusion in the community, while promoting para sports and create a sense of belonging for children with physical disabilities and their families.
“We hope this initiative will empower children with disabilities to explore various para sports and adapted physical activity, build friendships, and thrive in an inclusive and supportive community setting.”
