The Cork defeated Limerick Celtics at the National Basketball Arena on Friday

Relief was the word for Rebel Wheelers after they overcame a stubborn Limerick Celtics side in the InsureMyHouse.ie National Cup final on Friday at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght.

Wheelers were pushed every step of the way but the depth of the Cork side’s bench was the telling factor for a finish being able to bring in a number of fresh bodies and experienced players to see out the win.

Captain of Rebel Wheelers, Jack Quinn was voted MVP along with being presented with the Cup title after the game. Quinn was top scorer for his side with 27 points on the board.

Credit must go to Limerick Celtics for the battle that they put up against the reigning champs. Despite having limited numbers (7 on their panel), the ‘Treaty’-based side really put it up to the Rebel Wheelers throughout the game with Tiarnan O’ Donnell top scoring in the game with phenomenal 33 points.

Other standout performances came from Conor Coughlan, Derek Hegarty, Dylan McCarthy & Jack Mangan (all Rebel Wheelers), while for Limerick Celtics, everyone got on the scoresheet including Jodie Waite, Joe Hargrow, Carlos De Brunes and Seamus Long.

How it went: Q1: 14-12, Q2: 32-28, Q3: 52-43, Q4: 69-55

Well done to both sides on a terrific game. Attention now turns back to the IWB Senior League which continues in 2 weeks time in Galway.
