We are dedicated to promoting clean and fair competition in para sport.

Our goal is to educate athletes, coaches, and support staff about the importance of anti-doping measures and to ensure that all participants adhere to the highest standards of integrity and ethics in sports.

Here you’ll find valuable information, resources, and updates on anti-doping practices within IWA-Sport.

Let’s work together to uphold the spirit of true sportsmanship and maintain a level playing field for all athletes.

Vision

  • To create a generation of IWA-Sport athletes and support personnel who have confidence in their ability and the abilities of the athletes they are involved with, to succeed in sport without the misuse of prohibited substances or prohibited methods.
  • To educate and empower our members and clubs to be confident and competent to enable them to educate and support their athletes in all aspects of anti-doping.
  • To ensure enjoyment for all IWA-Sport athletes through fair play across all of our sports.

Mission

  • IWA-Sport values the contribution that sport can make to health, national pride and social development when cultivated within a strong ethical environment.
  • IWA-Sport commits to playing its part in promoting sporting values of integrity, fairness, equity and respect within our sports and to foster enjoyment for participants by setting standards for fair play and drug-free sport which will be communicated through the provision of effective education and information.
  • The basic principle of the IWA-Sport information and education programme for anti-doping shall be to protect the spirit of sport from being undermined by doping and to establish an environment which influences doping-free behaviour amongst participants.
  • IWA-Sport acknowledges that it has a duty to provide athletes, support personnel and clubs with the information and technical advice they need to make informed and responsible choices in compliance with the Irish Anti-Doping Regulations.

Policy

IWA-Sport has adopted the Irish Anti-Doping Rules, which are compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code. IWA-Sport strongly recommends that all its athletes become familiar with their rights and responsibilities in relation to anti-doping programmes and act accordingly.

IWA-Sport condemns the use of banned substances and unethical methods to improve the performance of athletes in sport. We support a fair and equitable competition environment and doping does not promote the good health and safe welfare of athletes. We believe that any illegal substances and methods are against the spirit of sport and will bring our sports into disrepute and accordingly have zero tolerance for such practices.

IWA-Sport is committed to setting standards for fair play and drug-free sport which will be communicated through the provision of effective education and information.

Training policy

The RTP, & National Squads competing in any given year must attend at least one information workshop delivered by a Sport Ireland appointed tutor, prior to competing at their major competition of that year where the most up to date anti-doping information will be discussed with them. This will allow our elite athletes to keep current with the Anti-Doping Regulations, their rights and their responsibilities.

It is the policy of IWA-Sport that all national team athletes and team management personnel must undertake the Sport Ireland (Clean Sport) Anti-Doping E-Learning Programme every 2 years. Evidence of completion (certificate of completion) must then be emailed to the IWA-Sport.

An IWA-Sport Anti-Doping Officer will continue to liaise with and support RTP athletes regarding upcoming whereabouts, reporting to Sport Ireland.

Anti-Doping Education Strategy

Objectives

IWA-Sport has identified the following goals to enable our vision to be realised:

  1. Promote doping-free behaviour to positively influence athletes’ beliefs, attitudes and behaviours towards doping in sport and to establish a generation of young athletes who have confidence in their own ability to succeed in sport without doping.
  2. Provide up to date information and education to athletes to enable them to make informed and responsible decisions, to minimise their risk of inadvertent doping, to remain doping-free and comply with their sport’s anti-doping regulations.
  3. Provide a range of relevant and accurate information to athlete support personnel to help them understand the importance of doping-free sport and empower them to help their athletes make informed and responsible decisions so they do not misuse prohibited substances or prohibited methods.
  4. Promote an attitude and culture change amongst clubs, coaches and support staff to use their positions of significant influence as an effective tool in the fight against doping.
  5. Raise awareness of the IWA-Sport education programme and effectively deliver key messages through a range of communication tools.
  6. Lead, support and collaborate with others in the development of anti-doping initiatives and research.
